Angelina Jolie…Hollywood’s Hero

Behind the Scenes of Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie, a name familiar to many in those involved in humanitarian work, and those in the Hollywood film industry. Angelina, who started off as a model, and then gradually worked her way up to fame in the acting career, is now one of the most influential and accomplished women figures. In 2000, Angelina started filming for her blockbuster hit, Tomb Raider. While filming in Cambodia, Jolie became conscious of the amount of poverty that overran the country. This was the start to Angelina’s international community work. Since then, she has had a tremendous amount of influence on government work overseas dealing with third world countries. Becoming the United Nations Goodwill Ambassador was her first monumental accomplishment. This allowed her to have more say and power in humanitarian work. She has carried out many duties and responsibilities described here in this quote by celebrity activists, “Jolie also met more than twenty representatives in the United States Congress and Senate to influence support for refugees and for UNHCR and other originations.” (lla, Laura La. United Nations. First Edition ed. New York City: The Rosen Publishing Group, 2009. Prin)
As she became more intrigued with her international work, she had many political accomplishments. In 2005 Jolie helped purpose/lobby three bills. These bills were to collect money for third world countries, endorse alien minors without lawyers, and assist orphans and vulnerable children in poverty stricken nations. All three of these bills were passed and took effect immediately. Jolie’s relations and partnering with Brad Pitt also helped her with a more recent accomplishment in 2006, The Jolie-Pitt Foundation. Laura La Bella, author of Angelina Jolie Good Will Ambassador For the United Nations says, “ In September 2006, Jolie and Pitt established a charitable foundation to help fun refugee-related causes. The foundation had donated millions of dollars to organizations around the world that place an emphasis on finding solutions to refugee-related problems.” (lla, Laura La. Celebrity Activists Angelina Jolie Goodwill Ambassador For The United Nations. First Edition ed. New York City: The Rosen Publishing Group, 2009. Prin) Other humanitarian accomplishments include her work with the environment in Cambodia where she has set up wildlife sanctuaries in parts of the nation. Yet don’t let Jolie’s impressive work in the fields of international affairs think that’s all she has up her belt. Jolie has many sizeable accomplishments in the Hollywood film industry.
Humanitarian meets Hollywood
In 2005 and 2009 Angelina Jolie was voted Favorite Female Actress by the Peoples Choice Award, and has won three Golden Globes. As if that’s not incredible enough, she has taken home the big time prize in 2000, when she won an Oscar for best actress in a support role for Girl Interrupted. Angelina has also recently been announced to have made to have taken the lead for the highest paid actress making over 20 million dollars a movie, and her films have brought in over 1 billion dollars worldwide per year.
